God’s “Let” Diary (Part 114) — I Will Let Down the Net

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, October 9, 2020

Today’s Text: Luke 5:1-11

Key Verses: Luke 5:5 (KJV) — “And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”

So much to drink from today’s well of salvation: from “master, we have toiled” to “nevertheless at thy word,” every stroke of the inspired pen brings us deeper and deeper in spiritual depths. We all know how so easy it is to regret our labor. We feel sorry for ourselves and want to call it quit. Peter and his folks were on this zone. They were washing their net. That’s a quitter-move right there. But he was sincere about it before the master. That's our first lesson there: we must come as we are. He confessed his failure; his trial and error, and the futility of his effort. That should be our position and posture in prayer. Lay bare your needs: Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing. Master, help my unbelief. Master, I’ve come to the end of myself. Master, save me, I'm sinking. Master, deliver me from this dying body. We must bear in mind that our spirit can not open up to receive divine blessings until we disallow the flesh from keeping back our truth.

After baring out our truth, we must not dwell on them. We must transition to God’s truth. We must come to the turning point of faith. Yes, our toil may have been all night long; but each moment before the master is already a morning of joy. So, it is time we come to the point of minimizing our loss, the pains and anything that disadvantages us. We must come up to the point of "Master, at Thy word!" For it is only at His word that all pain can turn to gain. At His words, seas flee and dry. At His words, seraphs sing and cherubs bow! At His words, all forces of the universe, maintain their existence. Like Peter, you too may have been under the influence of a great disappointment; nevertheless, if you would let the word of Christ, the Master, be so supreme over you and over that frustration, you can let down that net, and go home with an unimaginably embarrassing catch.

Quote for the Day: "Acts of simple obedience can advantage humans to partake of divine possibility.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, help me to set You always before me: so, I will not be shaken, and so that my faith also will rest secure, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
