Today’s Text: Acts 1:15-26
Key Verses: Acts 1:20 (KJV) — “For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.”

History is a ruthless teacher. Any person who fails to learn from it inevitably becomes history. Today’s leaders and men of spiritual and political responsibilities must learn from the history of Judas surnamed Iscariot. There is so much to learn from him: his golden opportunity, his office, the basis for which he fell, and the consequence of his fall. Like many of us, Judas was given an office he did not qualify for; but he fell because of dishonesty, love for money and love for praise of men. All these are strong demonic hold upon the hearts of unregenerate people. They form sieges that make them narrow-minded and self-indulgent. From self indulgence, they pass on to self deception, and self deception leads to self destruction. That was the case with Judas Iscariot, and that is the case with many selfish leaders today, who pursue miserly and temporary reward at the risk of their generation and reputation. That was the Judas’ factor.
Whoever lives in this way ends up with Judas’ reward. They lose so great an unquantifiable reward. They lose their estate and place like Judas lost his reputation, dignity and covenant place (his bishopric) among the apostles. If you have such a good opportunity of a larger-than-you office, and your passion is to seize seemingly favorable opportunity to exploit for selfish gain. You are only being like the traitor. God’s word says, “dishonest money dwindles away.” (Proverbs 13:11); and “an inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.” (Proverbs 20:21) Just as Judas lost his place, so shall every wicked traitor lose his place. While the original prophecy (in Psalm of David) must find its fulfillment; it does not have to be on Judas in particular; but it must be fulfilled on anyone who rejects, betrays, and murders the Lord. So shall it alao be for any one, who betrays the people’s trust.
Quote for the Day: “Anyone who brings deep sorrow, persecution, tears and contempt to God’s people also brings gall for Christ’s meat; and vinegar for His thirst.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, remove the Judas spirit far from our land. Cause every betrayal spirit to cease in our generation, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
