Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 23, 2020
Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 33:8-11
Key Verses: Deuteronomy 33:8 (KJV): “And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah.”
One of the most astonishing part of redemption is the irrevocability of God’s love towards us: how His love forms a banner over us. This truth is played out in the terms “Whom thou didst prove at Massah” and “With whom thou didst strive” — pointing us to the fact that it is purely by grace that we’re qualified for service. This is not just descriptive of Aaron. It represents all Levites and foreshadows each New Covenant believer as a priest of God. So that, like Aaron and other Old Testament Levites, we are often tried, reproved and chastised, but God‘s redemptive love never takes our priesthood away.
Yes, in Christ, God turns our curse into a blessing. Grace contains and curtails whatever the curse (of the law) entails, and we are are made holy by the righteousness of Christ. We can therefore discern the mind of God. And though the Urim and Thummim were lost in the captivity, never to be restored again in the rebuilt temple; but, in us, this blessing “let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one” finds its true fulfillment. We bare the thummim of our sanctified consciences and the urim of the Holy Spirit. We are never left alone. We walk under the daily guidance of God’s Holy Spirit of promise. Hallelujah!
Quote for the Day: "Grace contains and curtails what the curse entails, and we are are made holy by the righteousness of Christ.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O LORD, help me to walk tall, stand strong, and be deeper daily in your love, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
