Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, November 17, 2020
Today’s Text: Romans 14:19-20
Key Verses: Romans 14:19 (KJV) — “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.”

In view of all the perceptions and misconceptions and judgements of one another that was ongoing among the Roman believers pertaining to holy days, seasons, foods and others, the apostle cautions that there will always be differences in believers’ opinions on/about things. We must all understand that the unity God requires of us is of heart and not of head. We may not all and always think the same thing or the same ways. Some may respect certain festivals and others certain foods. Those who abstain and those who restrain do not have to become enemies because of their differences.
Jewish believers are encouraged to learn how to live with Gentiles or proselytes in ways by which the gospel of Christ may not be reviled. God wants us to be rather thankful not strive-full for our differences. Cultural variation was very new to the early Church because most of them were either solely Jewish or solely Grecian prior to their being called into one body of Christ. The core message of the text is that whatever we allow or disallow, we must make sure that nothing does harm to the brethren we are supposed to edify.
Quote for the Day: We must be able to distinguish between things that are fundamental and inherent to doctrine and those which are temporary and abhorrent.
Prayer: O Lord, help us to eendure all, tolerate all, and embrace all in the spirit of your grace and love. Bless us with your peace, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
