Today’s Text: Galatians 6:1-5
Key Verses: Galatians 6:4 (KJV) — “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

Forming an unduly favorable and high opinion of self is one of the commonest human fall; and as such, a correct self-appraisal is almost always harder the thumb-cracking the kernel shell. An average natural man finds acquiring a right perspective of self almost impossible. No matter how sharp a man’s eyes are, they may not see itself except through a mirror. It is almost as tough for a man to search, find and refine his own heart except by the word of God. Today’s text is a hope-lifter as well as a entreaty to incline our heart to personal perception and evaluation through the help of God’s word. How does God’s word help us here? It reveals to us that an unduly high estimation of self is actually a revelation of our depravity, low degree and complex.
Real men of high endowments are generally scarcely self-assertive. It is often men who are conscious that their merits are not ascertained that seek any means or opportunity to blow their empty horns. Writing to the Galatians, Apostle Paul saw the easy trend of superficial self estimation among them. This tendency is also very common today. Hence, as unto them, this admonition is a call unto us to strife towards overcoming overrated opinion of self. In his comment, Archbishop Seeker said that reason there is so little self-condemnation today is because there is also so little self-examination. He opines that many of us become very knowledgable aboutthe our outer life, but so ignorant of the inner. Let us all wake, while we may, to an objective, fair and impartial self evaluation so that the kind of non pretended joy described by the Apostle in our key verse may be truly ours.
Quote for the Day: “Fair or unfair, truthful or false: every self estimation gets a return of most appropriate consequences.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me to be so true in the act of self- examination. Let your word be the mirror that helps me to look at myself as you do, through the eyes of truth, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
