God’s “Let” Diary (Part 164) — Let Not the Sun Go Down

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Today’s Text: Ephesians 4:25-32

Key Verses: Ephesians 4:26 (KJV) — “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.

Anger, a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, and hostility is something that we have been cautioned to refrain from and forsake in the biblical revelation. Against our unruly and disobedient nature, the Lord, our God has laid fir us an example of being patient, merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. And the overall revelation of the word of God on this very crucial topic is that whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a hasty temper is one who promotes foolishness.

In today’s meditation, Paul the apostle teaches us not to allow the displeasure, hostility, irritations or annoyance that the natural life brings to become the occasion for sin. Someone or something will always exasperate us — saints or sinners — and whatever it is, or from whichever source it is from, we are administered not to let the angry passion rise within our soul. When it does, it gives the devil unnecessary foot-hold in our lives, and open up the heart to all other unfortunate relatives of anger such as malice, hatred, aggression, and revenge. The core of this text is an indirect way of saying that while anger is an inherent nature of man — you will be angry. And of course, it is almost impossible to live and not feel aggravated by something, someone someday. However, the command here implies our readiness to live consciously of the fact that we are more prone to sin the more we allow the angry passion to rise in us. We may all agree then that it is actually so difficult if not impossible to be angry and not to sin.

Quote for the Day: “Anger is an easy source of sin because it is a blind nature — unable to direct right energy to the right course in the right degree at the right time and for the right intent.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, bring peace to my heart when I feel angry at any situation, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
