Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, December 20, 2020

Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:22-33

Key Verses: Ephesians 5:24 (KJV) — “Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

We should forever be grateful for this apostolic treatise because it reveals a wonderful aspect of our faith. It represents the manner in which the principle and blend of our union with Christ, and subjection to Him is beautifully and carefully related. And how it relates to the relationship between the man and woman. So that Christian couples will understand that just as we are united with Christ and are yet in submission to His authority; so also are those, who are united as man and wife called into submission unto each other. The apostle sees the same spiritual dynamics in operation in family life and relationship.

As the Church, being the bride of Christ, is in submission to His will; it is the duty of the Christian wife to be submissive to her husband in the Lord -- not in slavish fear but from a principle of love, honor and obedience. The Christian husband is held even to a higher responsibility. He must love his wife in the same manner and example in which Christ loves the church. He must demonstrates sincere, pure, unequivoca, constant and protective love to her even in the face of her failures. The key to understanding this meditation is looking at the entire text; and it shall become obvious that the charge indeed transcends what women alone holds as duty to their husbands; but that everyone in a Christian household must be held up to the same mutual conscience. And whereas the church or believers may not be without spot or wrinkle till they come to glory, they are expected, like the wife and husband are, to continue striving toward unspotted mutuality in love and submission.

Quote for the Day: “Marriage is never a servant to master kind of submission; but one that recognizes mutuality as a rule of just, tender, and wise love.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please infuse in us the Christlike love that empties self and loves in spite of failure. Give us the Christlike submission that says not my will but yours be done, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
