Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, January 16, 2021
Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 6:6-8
Key Verses: 1 Timothy 6:8 (KJV) — “And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

The apostle has personally demonstrated the virtue of contentment as a spiritual model to his son and mentee, Timothy. He (Paul) has learnt to abound and a base. He wants this to also be evident in the life of every believer. Although contentment is no more as emphasized today as an important teaching of the church; but it is a condition necessary to godly character. Indeed, it is a mark of Christian conduct. We have heard how it was taught in an earlier treatise that godliness with contentment is a great gain. A godly man is content with what he has and grateful for what he is yet seeking of the Lord. He is in submision to the will of God.
This charge is an admonition for all believers to embrace godly character that is free from unbridled thirst for perishing treasures. Our life in Christ is already connected with treasures of a better and more enduring value. If we have basic needs of life, we should maintain a righteous temper that is not derailed and disquieted by worldly interests. The allusion to food and raiment here is never to be taken literally. The apostle used these key words to denote human basic needs in general. Most people are no more content with simply having those things that are really necessary for life. They despise their blessing and covet those of others. Jesus says “our father in heaven knows those things we need” for the necessities of life.
Quote for the Day: ”While we must freely express all our desires to God; we must accept that He will only supply all that are necessary for us.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be content in all that you have graciously provided me with every spiritual blessing in Christ and everything I need for life and godliness, in Jesus name. Amen.
