God’s “Let” Diary (Part 19) — Don’t Let Attitude Weigh You Down

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 29, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Samuel 2:1-10

Key Verses: 1 Samuel 2:3 (KJV): “Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogance come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

This text presents Hannah's song of reflection, which tells of her deliverance, trustworthiness of God, and a warming to the arrogant. The Bible remains truth to itself throughout the Testaments. Its message of man’s responsibility to God consistently spans through all scriptural themes. Proverbs 5:21 tells us that “the LORD sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.” The God who, in the beginning sees the hiding of Adam and Eve, weighs the heart of Cain. It is He who, in today’s text, watches even the household actions of two rivals. In Samuels, He does not see as man sees. In Kings, He weighs the heart of Saul. In Daniel, God weighs and finds ungodly kingdom wanting. In the days of Christ, He judges the one found in the very act as well as those with stones in their hands.

This is a sobering truth, and calls for careful thoughts. That’s why the Lord, who spoke through Balaam’s donkey is speaking through Hannah’s song to generations. We must watch out, lest our attitude put us at the jeopardy of God’s judgement. This message also comes clear through many of our Lord’s apostles. Through Peter, we are warned that “Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear” (1 Peter 1:17). And by Paul, we are charged that “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). Beware of pride and arrogance! They are attitudes that weigh people down before men and God.

Quote for the Day: "The estimation of men is always sensual, selfish and false; but God’s estimation of all is always righteous and true.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, give me the wisdom to live worthy, acceptable and uncondemnable life before You, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
