God’s “Let” Diary (Part 44) — Let All the People Say Amen

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, July 24, 2020

Today’s Text: Psalm 106:40-48

Key Verses: Psalm 106:48 (KJV): “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.”

Happy weekend and Good Friday morning. Have you ever wondered just what the word "amen" really means? Most of us learn it from kindergarten as a word you say after prayer; so that we say it emphatically after each expression of prayer. For most American Christians, it was thought or taught that since the word is a solemn word, people must be careful not to overuse it; so that they say it sparsely after whole body of prayer, or almost would not bear to even say it at all. Wherever you belong, the truth is, almost everyone knows close to nothing about the depth of richness of the word?

There are two forms of this word in today’s text: the qal and the niphal, each meaning "so be it” or “establish it" respectively — and these are the original scriptural meanings of amen. David challenges “all the people” to say amen. Since Deuteronomical days, the word amen has been used as an expression of absolute trust and confidence. You can affirm your belief in God and His word by an amen. When God makes a promise, your response as His child is amen. When you’re in agreement with a word of prayer, you affirm it by amen. It means “so shall it be!” So, wether like thunder, or like a hoof, our charge today is “let all the people say, Amen.”

As New Testament believers, we should never shy away from saying it. It is a way to demonstrate our confidence in God. In the revelation of John at the Isle of Patmos, Amen is a title of Christ Himself. “These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God" in Revelation 3:14 refers to the risen and glorified Lord. That’s how He represented Himself in His letters to the seven churches. Therefore, Amen is not just an affirmation of trust; it is also a public proclamation of Christ. So, brothers and sisters, it’s our blessing to gladly yield this psalmist’s call. As we live out our faith daily: “let all the people say, Amen.” As we pray according to God’s will: “let all the people say, Amen.” As we close our corporate or private hymns: “let all the people say, Amen.”

Quote for the Day: "Jesus is the beginning and ending of scriptures. Genesis opens up His creative act; and Revelation closes with His revealed name — Amen.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, I believe your promises. Your word is Yea and Amen. Be it unto me according to your words and promises today, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
