God’s “Let” Diary (Part 58) — Let the Earth Hear

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, August 8, 2020

Today’s Text: Isaiah 34:1-15

Key Verses: Isaiah 34:1 (KJV) — “Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

The troubling imageries of the desolation painted in this prophecy canvas calls for the attention of all. The prophet had seen a future deluged with different kinds of disaster except the people give heed to the word of the Lord. And like a prophetic art, a picture is being sketched of the gloom of Edom for being in enmity with Judah. Edom was chosen as a spectacle of the lesson that God has to teach to all nations and all ages. Already, it is clear from the text that He is against conspiracy, hatred and bitterness. Yet, there is much more: the text aligns with other scriptures to echo the fact that anyone who takes the sword shall perish by it (Matthew 26:52). It warns that the destroyers, who have not been destroyed, and the betrayers, who have not been betrayed, at the end shall themselves be destroyed (Isaiah 33:1 ). However, there is an ultimate sense in which men who makes themselves enemies of God and His Son shall be punished.

Therefore, through Isaiah, God is sending forth this invitation to “come near, ye nations.” The plural is indicative of the fact of all inclusiveness. Not just Edom, but God has all men in mind. And not just to hear these judgments He was going to execute upon them; but it as an extension of His love. He wants all to hear the good news of forgiveness available to any nation, or people that comes to the light of Christ. The core message of this text is that God wants all men to be clear of this: just as He did not spare the enemies of His people, Israel; those who, by life and choice, make themselves enemies of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Messiah shall face His ultimate judgement. Howbeit, the text did not fail to let us know that this truth is universal in scope: "let the earth hear, and all that is therein." In the same way as this is not just a message to Judah or Edom; salvation is not just for the Jews or the church. It refers to whosoever hears among all the inhabitants of the earth.

Quote for the Day: "The divine summon to hear Him and embrace His love is to all creation And shall divine judgement be on those who reject Him in all creation.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, help me to always be on the watch, so that I may not be a partaker in the wrath to come against the disobedient, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
