Today’s Text: Jeremiah 29:8-19
Key Verses: Jeremiah 29:8 (KJV) — “For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.”

We are in an age when deception is almost a norm. This is sobering but so true. Indeed, it manifests itself in every facets of our lives: from men and ladies tinting hmasks to adjust their look; to wearing rouge, eye shadows and lashes, and false bodies. High percentage of news and advertisements use false packaging and conceal truth from people. Well, we may let dogs delight to back and bite — for that is their nature. The secular world has no better reputation than the culture of deceit. But how unfortunate it is that the same spirit of error has deepened its roots among the people of God so much that there are more wolves in sheep’s clothings in today’s church than in all of past generations put together.
During the days of Jeremiah, magic, sorcery and all kinds of deceiving spirits were prevalent in Babylon — myriads of diviners that are not known or sent by the Lord but profess to be prophets. Their popularity filtered to Jerusalem because they prophesied lies to stroke the egos of Jews seeking speedy deliverance and prosperity. They discredit God’s appointed plan for the exile’s full seventy years course announced by Jeremiah and lead God’s people astray. And because the people loved falsehood, these false prophets and seers increased. That is why the Lord brought up the accusation that the people caused the dreams dreamt by those false dreamers. This is also true of our generation: Prophecies and visions have become a matter of demand and supply. Many seers now create visions to suit the nature, needs or interests of their clients.
In conclusion, it is important you recognize the several faces of false prophets today. Among them are the religious founders misleading billions of religious but unsaved souls; some mega church pastors preaching the gospel of convenience and falsehood that fails to warn people of sin; the prayer dealers or contractors that pump blessings out on prayer mountains or social media to people rather needing the solution of repentance; the political pastors whose pulpit is motivated by partisan poison that speak lies to stroke the ego of ungodly leaders; or other charlatans who flatter people in their sins and soothsay them smoothly on their journey to hell. Against these, Jeremiah warns by the authority of the Lord God of hosts. He cautions us to beware of fancies called faith. God sends this warning so that we don’t suffer ourselves to be deluded by fraudsters called prophets. To escape their trap, we must seek genuine word of God; desist from vision dealers even if their shops are attractive and magnificent cathedrals; and we must test all spirits otherwise the blame is already laid at our door.
Quote for the Day: "Charlatans who prophesy to satisfy men’s appetites are operating in priestcraft not priesthood, witchcraft not ministry.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, please grant me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a pure heart to follow and obey Your truth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
