Today Text: 2 Kings 12:17-21
Key Verse: 2 Kings 12:18 (ESV): “Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred gifts that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah his fathers, the kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own sacred gifts, and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king’s house, and sent these to Hazael king of Syria. Then Hazael went away from Jerusalem.“

Some of us are blessed to have had godly ancestry or parents. Not many people have that privilege. But unfortunately, most people often take that for granted. Jehoram and Ahaziah represented godly ancestry for Jehoash. Both ancestors had dedicated certain hallowed things to the name of the Lord, which unfortunately meant little or nothing to Jehoash. Today’s generation seems to share so much of the spirit of Jehoash. Hallowed things mean so little or nothing these days. We are so flippant and nonchalant about our spiritual heritage. Modern day Christians appear to be willing or happy to so easily give up their commitment, conviction and connection with the Lord. It is so concerning: why more and more Christians so easily naturalize or conciliate non biblical things while God’s ways and words are seemingly non tolerated.
Friends, please do not be like Jehoash. All the treasures and assets pertaining to sanctuary and spirituality in your life are not disposable. The fact that there was so much is not to be wondered at, or taken for cheap, easy or excessive. Apart from Christ paying fatally for your spiritual life, it is also the result of some people’s spiritual investment of treasurable time and talents. No spiritual blessing in our lives at be cheapened, thrashed or compromised. So whatever represents hallowed things in your life — prayer life, fellowship, friendship, charity, Bible Study, giving, visiting brethren, faith, obedience.
Quote for the Day: “No matter how promising a beginning is, spiritual decline always leads to a bad endings.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Please Lord, help me to guide jealously all the spiritual strength, grace and blessings that are mine in and through Jesus. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
