Hard to Find (Part 3)

Today’s Text: Proverbs 31:13–24

Key Verse: “She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.” — Proverbs 31:20 (KJV) 0

In this third part of our meditation, we see that the virtuous woman is hard to find because her hands are both diligent and compassionate. Proverbs 31 repeatedly draws attention to her hands: they work willingly, hold the spindle, manage resources, make garments, provide for her household, and reach toward the poor. Her hands reveal her heart. She is not content merely to wish for a better life; she applies herself faithfully to the work God has placed before her.

“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.” This woman does not live grudgingly or lazily. She approaches her responsibilities with a willing spirit, understanding that work done with wisdom and faith becomes an act of worship. She rises early, plans carefully, considers opportunities, and uses the fruit of her labor to improve the well-being of her household. Scripture even portrays her as one who considers a field, purchases it, plants a vineyard, and brings value through her enterprise.

Yet her productivity does not make her selfish. The same hands that work are extended to the poor and needy. This is the beauty of godly success: it does not close the hand; it opens it. A person who fears God understands that every resource, skill, opportunity, and measure of strength is entrusted by God for service. She does not use her blessings only to build personal comfort; she recognizes suffering around her and responds with compassion.

Hard to find is the person who can be both industrious and generous—ambitious without becoming self-centered, successful without becoming proud, and busy without becoming indifferent to the pain of others. The virtuous woman teaches us that work and mercy belong together. We are called to labor faithfully, not only so that we can provide for our own responsibilities, but also so that our lives may become a channel of blessing to others.

Beloved, God is still searching for hands He can trust. He is looking for hands that will not fold in idleness, hands that will not grasp every blessing selfishly, and hands that will remain open to those in need. It is one thing to speak about love; it is another to demonstrate love through practical service. The woman of Proverbs 31 makes her faith visible through disciplined labor and compassionate giving. Her life tells us that godly character is not only seen in prayer and confession, but also in what we do with our hands.

Action Steps: Today, identify one responsibility God has placed in your hands and do it willingly, diligently, and excellently. Ask the Lord to remove every spirit of laziness, complaint, procrastination, and selfishness from your life. Look around for someone who needs encouragement, practical help, a meal, a gift, a phone call, or a prayer, and extend your hand in love. Let your work glorify God, and let your blessings become a blessing to someone else.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the strength and opportunities You have placed in my hands. Teach me to work willingly, wisely, and faithfully in every assignment You give me. Deliver me from idleness, selfish ambition, and a closed heart toward those in need. Make my hands productive for Your glory and compassionate toward others. Let the work of my hands provide blessing for my household, encouragement for the needy, and honor to Your name—in Jesus’s name, Amen.
