Today’s Text: Nahum 1:8-15
Key Verse: Nahum 1:9 (MSG): “Why waste time conniving against God? He's putting an end to all such scheming. For troublemakers, no second chances.”

We have one of Old Testament’s clearest prophetic oracles before us today. You can determine a prophetic property of a scriptural writing if and when it describes something that reveals something that God has done, is doing; or when it suggests that most certainly must happen later. God inspire Nahum to sound this clear ominous prophetic warning to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria—the same nation because of which Jonah had fled from the Lord because he did not want to them to repentance and be speared of God’s wrath. By Nahum's time, Nineveh had become extremely wicked; and God’s patience had been tried concerning the oppression of His men.
God wants His suffering people to know that He is always jealous for them. We can be sure He never suffers the righteous to be moved. And, sternly roused against anyone or thing that moves them. Therefore, this warning was necessary for two reasons: first, to strengthen God’s people that God is ever good to His men — a sure hiding in troubled times. Secondly, it is to warn all enemies that it is useless to plot against the God, who can utterly destroy them with one blow and not need to strike twice. “O ye Ninevites; do you think you can frustrate the designs of the Lord, resist his power, and hinder him from executing what he has threatened and has determined to do?” The prophet warned. Because any anger or bitterness directed against the people of God is directed against the Lord. Those who are in opposition against us oppose the spirit of God. This is not an assumption; rather, it is an assurance that we have a hiding place in Christ Jesus, and one in enmity against us can prevail.
Quote for the Day: “A resolve that we are eternally secure in God’s place is the only reasonable necessary logical response of God’s people to the message of Nahum.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for being my defender and my hiding place. I pray for the reassurance of your impregnable protection as I begin this day. You are my hiding place, and under Your wings I can always find refuge. Protect me from trouble wherever I go, and keep evil far from me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
