Today’s Text: James 4:7-10
Key Verse: James 4:10 (KJV): “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

I doubt if there is any other such short exhortation so full of such commanding tone as this text throughout scriptures. It is such a short paragraph of thoughts, comprising only four verses and yet having no fewer than ten imperative verbs — each pointing to the cardinal precept of Christian submission. Obviously, Apostle James was deliberate in pointing us to the significance of conducting ourselves in subjection to Divine will. According to him, submission to the righteousness of God is not just a reverence and obedience to God, but it is also a resistance to the devil.
In another way, if God reigns in our lives, our will, body and mind shall also be controlled by a humble surrender to Him. Any life that is subject to God will necessarily and essentially resist His (God's) enemy. By nature, humans resist the wrongs things and embrace the wrong as well. This is because we lose our strength of character at The Fall. But as a result of our redemption, we are repositioned against any form of association and parley with the devil — who is the spirit behind arrogance and pride — because he wanted to become more than God allowed, attempted to puff himself higher in his creation. We must never give the devil a place (Ephesian 4:27) by giving room for pride. The devil lifted himself in pride and was hurled down. But we are to humble ourselves, and God will lift us.
Quote for the Day: “Being proud of yourself is different from having pride in self. Humbling yourself is different from being humbled.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me the spirit of humility — an attitude of spiritual modesty which understands and accepts my place in the larger order of things — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
