I know Your Deeds

Today’s Text: Revelation 2:18-29

Key Verse: Revelation 2:19 (NIV): “I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.”

Meditating on this text yesterday brought a new light to me. It was almost like an experience of a fallen scale when I took a spiritual train tour that transported me through time back to a vivid revelation of the Fall and how Adam and Eve fell from grace and tried to conceal the fact before God. I watched, in my mind’s eyes, the events leading to the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden. Humanity likes to hide. There are a lot of daily attempts to conceal our true needs, anxieties, frustrations, and inadequacies. Like Adam and Eve, we make false “garments of fig leaves” trying to hide our most odious parts. But “Is he blind—that formed your eyes?” (Psalm 94:9) Certainly, no! We can hide nothing from God. He knows our deeds.

Eden was brought back to the Isle of Patmos the day in which the risen Lord visited John to speak about the church of Thyatira. Clearly, the images of the tree of life and the Paradise of God were set before him (John). The church of Thyatira was in a city famous in the 1st century AD for hydes and dyeing trade. It was easy to illustrate a pretentious outfit of the church, using the images of a pretended outlook. But God says, you neither need the fig leaves nor the dye, I can see the stain. I know your deeds. Today, we are reminded of how Adam faced the first wave of death, was excluded from the reach of the tree of life and lost out of the garden of God. We are therefore cautioned to repent so that we may escape being hurt by the second death. We are given the opportunity to repent, turn away from lukewarm life and any appearance of evil deeds. We must never take God's patience as an occasion to continue in sin. The one who knows our deeds calls us to repent.

Quote for the Day: “The wrongest place to hide things from God is the only place we have chosen: our hearts, right where He lives.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come before you humbled by my sin, and ready to repent. Lord, forgive me and lead me back to your way, in Jesus' name. Amen

I welcome you to join our special Interdenominational Prayer Vigil holding tomorrow, Friday, Sept 17 from 9.00 pm CST (3.00 am Nigeria or UK)
