In Spirit and in Truth (Part Three)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Tuesday, July 2, 2019

Our Text: John 4:16-30

Key Verses: John 4:28–29 (ESV): “So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

The goal of true worship is to come into a real experience that transforms us inside and out. The woman in our text today came to the well fractured and confused, but after a genuine encounter with Jesus, she left redeemed, and she became a witness to the revealed Messiah.

True worship has little or nothing to do with our liturgy, protocols or hierarchy; otherwise the disciples would not walk away from Jesus into the city only or merely in search of food whereas a fractured sinful woman walked away from Him into the city in search of souls. They needed to learn more, know Him more, and drink more from the well. God is calling the distracted church to leave our empty jars at His feet for true infilling that comes from a genuine encounter with Jesus.

Quote for the Day: “If and when worship is genuine, a brief moment, a simple prayer, and yes, one word from Jesus is enough to awaken man’s conscience, and provoke the deepest confession: “Is not this the Christ?” And the logical conclusion will be the fulfillment of the greatest commission — “Come, see the man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that You would give me a hunger for You, and help me to focus on You alone, removing anything that keeps me from genuinely encountering You. Capture my heart, and reveal Yourself to me until I am fully consumed with Your person—in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
