Intuitiveness of Sin

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, February 5, 2023

Today’s Text: Psalm 58:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 58:3 (NLT): “These wicked people are born sinners; even from birth they have lied and gone their own way.”

Have you ever wondered who taught the little children their skills of corruption? The Bible is full of examples of feeling that causes us to know or do certain things without fully understanding how or why. Especially, as humans, we all experience strong inner urges to/for sin because of the nature of Adam. In Romans 7:14–24, Apostle Paul, using his personal example, explains how we live of the flesh, sold under sin. How we do not understand our actions, and do not what we want, but the very thing we hate because of our inner nature of sin.

Every natural man must come to the futility of human ego before God and accept there is nothing good in us without God. Aside from Christ, we are totally deprived in the flesh. That is why we have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. That is why we cannot do the good we want by our own power and strength; except God helps us. And, that is why we keep on doing the evil we do not want. Like a child craws to his mother breasts at birth without being prompted, the intuition to sin puts craftiness, deceit, pride, and lying tongues in us.

Verses 5 and 6 of this texts reveals that except God breaks the teeth of sin, we cannot hear the voice of charmers. We are like the lost dog, in African aphorism, which does not listen to the whistling hunter. To be free from the sinful intuition, we must cry out to God like Paul: “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?  Bible’s only answer is: It is the name of the Lord that is man’s strong tower — the only place to which we may run and be saved.

Quote for the Day: “No one comes to the savior except he realizes his lostness in sin and his inability to help himself. (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me in all my struggles with the dying nature of sin. Let the nature of Jesus Christ dominate and notify the nature of sin in me — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
