Joy in His Presence

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, September 1, 2021

Today’s Text: Psalms 16:1-1.1

Key Verse: Psalms 16:11 (ESV): “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.“

Congratulations! We have been blessed to see another month. Indeed, we can all look back at all the blessings we have received months after months, and day by day. And as we begin a new month today, it will be amazing to get our minds renewed regarding the cultivation of the joy in the presence of God. I am praying for you, dear friends, that this new month will bring you deeper understanding of what it means to have true joy in the presence of God. Many of us think we cannot enjoy God's presence here on earth until we die or get raptured to be with Him. Some think the joy only comes from fellowship and church services alone. Others think it is limited to the moment of meditation or devotion.

First of all, today's text does not refer to any of the situations above. It is originally a prophetic anticipation or contemplation of our glorious state after resurrection. The same sense in which apostle Paul says, "Our conversation is in heaven." However, we have been so blessed to experience this incredible joy, partake in the glory and experience the same fulness of joy while serving and worshipping God on earth. The heavenly city is the kingdom in heaven while our daily life in union with Christ is the kingdom of heaven. Except and/or until our day-to-day life reflects the glory of God in such manner: so that it may be regarded as a manifestation of God's kingdom, then the joy of His presence is a far cry from us.

The Holy Spirit in us ministers to this joy. He helps us grow in daily affection, profound admiration, ardent gratitude, unalloyed confidence, perfect love, and deep contentment with the rule and will of God. This is not just in our worship but also in our daily lifestyle. We may relate this to “righteoudness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” which Paul says is the kingdom of God. As such, this month and throughout our life; we must imbibe the proposition of Peter Marshall, Sr. in his Leadership, Vol. 17, no. 2 where he said: “If God does not enter your kitchen, there is something wrong with your kitchen. If you can’t take God into your recreation, there is something wrong with your play. We all believe in the God of the heroic. What we need most these days is the God of the humdrum, the commonplace, the everyday.” So, let the joy of the Lord show all over and around you wherever you are, and whatever you do.

Prayer: Dear Lord, You have given us new life through Your death. Your have given us joy in Your presence. Please help us to walk daily in this joy which only You can give,, and You have already given. Also give us a willing spirit to cultivate this joy in our daily lives, in Jesus' name. Amen.
