Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, July 15, 2022
Today’s Text: Matthew 6:19-24
Key Verse: Matthew 6:20 (ESV): “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

Have you ever thought about why Jesus said it will be easier for a Carmel to enter the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God? Is anything wrong with riches? Or, is Jesus against wealth and riches? Certainly not! But look around you, and you won’t have to look too far before you see how controlling riches are, or could be. When a person is swamped by the spirit of worldly riches, he keeps pursuing material things while not being touched by really important matters of life and being rich towards God.
All through the days of Jesus’ flesh, He taught us the right attitude toward material things and the importance of seeking our creator. In this passage, He taught us to store up treasures in heaven, and seek God’s kingdom before and above all things. He wants us to seek God before His blessings. He taught us to make wise eternal investments, and live a grateful and generous life. These attitudes are blessed because they demonstrate freedom from any grip of materials; show recognition that we are only stewards of our resources; and of course, it’s so liberating when we have a deep sense of a treasure stored up in heaven.
We will all be free from the evil of material hold if, in the first place, we realize that nothing is truly ours. So, we do not have any say in whether or not we give or let go of them. In this way, riches lose power and grip over us; we become liberated to be faithful, open, and generous in handling possession or in distributing it; and, we find it easy, as stewards of God’s provisions, to invest in His (God’s) kingdom purposes.
Quote for the Day: “A heart primarily rich towards God will enjoy earthly riches better because he is liberated from slavery to materials." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to overcome the spirit of Mammon and its control. When I seek Your blessings, please deter me from selfish gain, so that I may use them to bless others. Fill my heart with thoughts of your kingdom, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
