Knowing Your Worth (Part One)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, July 6, 2019

Our Text: Galatians 2:15-21

Key Verse: Galatians 2:20 (ESV): “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Not knowing one’s worth is like or worse than a case of mistaken identity. Once, a college student was believed to have survived a bus crash when she actually died in the accident, and another student presumed to be dead was actually in a hospital being treated for head wounds and mistaken for the dead one. When the surviving student came out of her coma, the deceased parents who have maintained needless vigils realized that the girl who they believed was their daughter was actually another person.

Today’s scripture presents us with a figure of speech that describes our true state and identity. A Christian who misses the point carries a lost or mistaken identity. Inasmuch as Christ died for us, we may be said to have been crucified representatively in him. Paul’s passionate earnestness in describing how we are spiritual renewed is an attempt to help us know our worth in Christ. A true believer carries a peculiar identity in which he has given himself up to Christ, and has taken up a new ruling power over the force of self called flesh.

Quote for the Day: “Judicial, spiritual and practical paradoxes of the mystery of the believer's standing is a dead man, an inwardly changed man, and a living proof of all that Christ has done.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help come into full realization of who I am in you—in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
