Let Your Heart Go with Your Hands

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, May 16, 2020

Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 9:7-10

Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 9:10 (ASV): “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.”

The author of today’s text presents us a paradox about life’s fleeting end. He believes that thoughts about our end should motivate us to perform our duties on time and with hearts. Devotion is revealed by the quality and justness of work and commitment. He painted a picture of a true merry life as against one given to languor and indolence which brings depression and weariness.

A believer is charged to apply diligence, assiduity and urgency to whatever s/he does. We should not be like the elderly carpenter who was asked by his employer to build just one more house as a personal favor before his retirement. He agreed, but his heart was no more in the work. So, he resorted to shoddy workmanship, used inferior materials, and finished the work quickly. The carpenter was shocked at the end to find that he had built his own gift house.

We are reminded today to apply all hearts and might to whatever our hands find to do. By so doing, we architect our own life through God, one day at a time. If we put less than our best into the building, unfortunately, we may have to live in the house we have built with shoddy hands. There are some, today, that if they could do it over, they’d do it much differently. To them the word of God says there’s hope if you can begin to take pride in whatever you choose to do, putting your heart into it, and trusting your life upon God.

Quote for the Day: "Devotion is revealed by the quality and justness of a man’s work and commitment.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, help me in my daily activities to keep Your presence and power in the forefront of my mind, and apply my whole heart to the duties you assigned me, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
