Life as Gift and Trust

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, January 29, 2022

Today’s Text: Matthew 25:14-30

Key Verse: Matthew 25:23 (ESV): “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.””

During the days of Christ, a talent was an important unit of weight that was used as precious metals, measurement for precious things, foreign exchange or legal tender. In this parable, our Lord chose to use the allegory of gold or coins as example of talents to teach us that God has graciously and differently gifted us; and wants us to deploy those gifts for His glory. He also uses the parable to remind us of God’s expectations of us. By this, we understand that if we are faithful stewards of all that God has done for us, our relationship with Him is strengthened, and we are positioned for greater blessings.

First, we must realize that there is nothing we have in life that are not blessings from God, which are entrusted to us according to His wisdom, our needs, or our spiritual disposition. No matter our finances, health status, skills, talents, and intellect, they are all gifts from God and must be approached with gratitude and responsibility. The import of this is simple: our focus should not be on the blessings we have received but on God who has freely given them, and on His expectation of us to use them for His glory. It is always God’s will that we grow our gifts for His glory.

Unfortunately, we often misuse and abuse those talents and fail to see the abuse. Yes, it is abuse when we treasure those skills and blessings above God, the giver. God never entrusts a man with more than he can handle. Also, He never assesses our performance or accomplishments in comparison with others. But each man is held accountable for whatever he does with his life. No matter who you are, where you are , or what you are given, God’s expectation is still true. And the more you prove yourself worthy of His trusts the more God positions you for more blessings.

Quote for the Day: “We are in an ever increasing and expanding cycle of God’s amazing grace and blessings when we show ourselves willing, worthy and faithful.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, giver of life and source of all things. All I am and have is from your hand. Help me to be faithful steward of my life and all the abundance I’m given, O gracious and loving God — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have a fabulous Saturday… With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
