Looking Forward with Hope

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 5, 2024

Today’s Text: Romans 8:18-25

Key Verse: Romans 8:18-19 (NIV): "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed."

ree

In this passage, Paul writes to the Romans about the hope of glory that awaits believers. He contrasts the present sufferings with the future glory, emphasizing that the latter far surpasses the former. The creation itself is eagerly waiting for the revelation of God's children, implying a transformation that will occur when Christ returns.

In the biblical context, hope is not just a feeling or wish but a confident expectation based on God's promises. The Israelites hoped for a Messiah, and Christians hope for Christ's return and the ultimate redemption of all things.

Sarah, a single mother, faced immense struggles raising her children alone. Despite her hardships, she held onto hope, trusting that God had a better future ahead. She prayed and worked hard, and eventually, her children excelled in their studies and careers. Sarah's hope in God's goodness and provision sustained her through the darkest times.

When we face challenges, we can choose to focus on the present pain or look forward with hope to the future glory. Like Sarah, we can trust that God is working everything for our good (Romans 8:28). We can apply this hope in our daily lives by focusing on the eternal rather than the temporal. We can trust God's sovereignty in our struggles. And, we must continue to believe God for transformation and redemption.

Quote for the Day: "Tell me if you ever know any anchor of the soul, firm and secure; and I will tell you you've found hope." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to look forward with hope, trusting that your glory will be revealed in me. In the midst of sufferings, remind me of your promises and the transformation that awaits me. Strengthen my hope in you, and may it be the anchor of my soul — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
