Make the Lord Your Refuge

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 22, 2022

Today Text: Revelation 3:7-13

Key Verse: Psalm 11:1 (NLT): “I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, “Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety.

One of the glories of Christian ministry is influence. Well, May be not in an age when people cast off restraints. Everyone knows enough and no one is happy to learn or be taught. This Psalm was written by David as a lesson to his protégée — his choirmaster. And one can clearly see how David seeks that this man would trust God just like he had trusted in the Lord himself. Whereas many today have been so long with pastors, leaders and mentors, and yet have refused to be impacted that true safety is only from God.

This unnamed man have heard David’s “I will lift up my eyes to the hills… my help comes from the Lord…” Yet, David’s desire is for all believers in Jehovah to come into a place of personal confidence and confession: that it is never in fortresses or strong holds of rocks and mountains that safety may be found, or confidence placed. That’s good enough for birdsyes, for timorous birds that seek a place of safety from the snare of fowlers. But for me, he says, my confidence is only in the Lord, in His power, His love, and in His faithfulness.

He understands that influence is everything. He will not entertain the wrong influence or counsel of friends. He will not let sinners entice him to seek refuge in the wrong places. O child of God! End-time Christian! Like David, let us rise bold during these perilous times. Let us make God our fortress. Let us man our duty posts. Let us not run helter skelter. No, not, because of any impulse of fear, or at the instigation of worldly influences.

Quote for the Day: “One of the strongest soothing balm is the awareness that the grace of God abounds much more than our fears, worries and pain.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to you for help. Life is full of trials and turmoil. Sometimes it gets the best of even the strongest of your people; but I crave Your strength O Lord in my time of shakings — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
