Mid Year Revival Cry (Part 22): Undeniable Peace to God’s People

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, July 6, 2023

Today’s Text: Psalm 85:1-13

Key Verses: Psalm 85:8 (NLT): “I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish  ways.”

When God revives His people again and has mercy on them, the Church experiences some relief from distress caused by unsettling circumstances. This Psalm by the spared sons of Korah draws out some nature of true revival. These singers have been crushed in their history, and so has Israel. But when we cry to God and He sends us revived hopes, we can rejoice in Him. We can enjoy new tokens of mercy in manifest peace.

A church deprived of the evidence and sense of God’s presence may have such name as though it lived but is dead. The experience of the sons of Korah teaches us that our sense of God’s presence can turn our plagued past around. Their father, Korah had led a rebellion against the LORD in the wilderness and was immediately punished together with his co-conspirators (Num. 16). But a new vival dawned for a new peace for the children when they cried to God for revival. Yes, we too can learn the secret power of self release to the reviving hand of God. We can be restored to joy and comfort again because God speaks peace unto His people.

To those who seek God’s true presence, He speaks peace; and the society in which they live will partake of the fruits of God’s favor to them. It is our foolish pursuit of vanities that allure us to sin and interrupt our peace with God. But when we return to genuine communion with God, our peace is restored. And the fire of such revival keeps us in that peace; never to return to those foolish ways.

Quote for the Day: “Revival points us to purpose—both of why God corrects us the first place, and why He restores our peace— that we do not turn again to folly.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please awaken your people O Lord! Our troubled world and fellowship are proofs that we desperately need you in this hour! We need you to awaken slumbering saints and bring dead hearts to life. Please, show us your loving kindness. Grant us your peace. Cause us to rest in your sovereign plans—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
