Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:1-16
Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:2 (ESV): “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”
Revival of God's work stands intimately connected with man’s sensitivity to God’s Spirit. A good example is Habakkuk’s heart-cry to God which could only result from a Holy Spirit’s induced experience born out of his openness. No human can ever motivate himself toward God in that manner. It takes the Holy Spirit to move and open up man’s spiritual sensitivity to God.
Like Habakkuk, it is our responsibility to allow the Holy Spirit’s move by maintaining an open attitude toward God. We must remember that God does not strive with man (Gen 6:3). It is when our hearts are yielded to God’s Spirit that we are moved to thirst, and the thirst provokes prayer, and then the prayer produces revival. Do you feel such thirst for God in your life? If yes, then you have an evidence that the Spirit of God is at work in you—to quicken, renew, and influence a pursuit of God as did the prophets.
Habakkuk’s earnest supplication was a product of such stirring by the Spirit. We cannot trust in carnal orientation or motivation; or we will run fowl and totally miss the mark. Yes, because it is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh is of no avail. (John 6:63). The words of God are spirit and life—they cannot produce effects if they are received in carnality. It produces desired and abiding results only when it connects with our spirit and mingles with our faith.
Except these are true in our lives and worship, it is totally absurd to expect or desire God’s unusual move. Our lives and worship must be compatible. One or the other cannot be marked by the human administration and devices so that we may experience needed deep spiritual connection to God’s word. O how we need a totally deep immersion in spiritual sensitivity and openness to produce such consecration, character and courage.
Quote for the Day: “God does not withhold His presence and revelation from sincere and open minded seekers.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, in these days of great darkness and spiritual barrenness, move upon our hearts with a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit. We recognize our need for revival and spiritual awakening; and we ask that You would inspire an acceptable sensitivity to Your word in us— in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
