Mid Year Revival Cry (Part Seven): A Lively Testimony of God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 13, 2023

Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:1-16

Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:3 (ESV): “God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.”

Spiritual awakening is something that we all desire. We love to see God move in our own church, homes, lives and age. And, indeed, we can see the Lord do again what He did in the days of old. There can be revival of hope for those who have no hope; renewal for those who are dead in their sins — because of the power of Jesus. Our dry bones can live again by the breath of God. We can witness His splendor cover the heavens, and the earth filled with His praise.

However, the only thing that we never have in doubt is liveliness in our worship community. The world still doubt the liveliness of our claims and witness of/to the manifestation of our true and living God. Many churches are full of life, joy and claims to the power of the Holy Spirit through inherited scriptural signs and wonders; leaving the world in want of the evidence in our days. Whereas the truth revealed in scriptures shows that God is more willing and able to show up for us today, in more practical and lively ways, than He did in past generations. But that can only happen if and when our fellowship with Christ is deeper and more genuine.

What is God saying to us? Habakkuk’s experience is more possible in our age. He saw God’s descent in splendor and power: an experience that was preceded by a thirst for God. We too can do the same if we genuinely thirst for Him, allow Him to be the center of our worship and devotion, glorify Christ than we lift ourselves; and of course, if we know, love, serve, follow and exalt Him in oneness of heart and unity of the spirit. Then such joy as witnessing our world filled with His praise can be ours. We can experience the days of His power again — days in which His people shall be willing to serve, live, follow the Master, and reach out and win others with passion. These are marks of a revived church.

Quote for the Day: “Evidence of divine presence is not in natural eloquence; but in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit and power.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we call Your name today. We thirst for Your move in clear and bold way. We want You to do a new thing in our hearts and lives. Let there be spiritual awakening that will cause our dry bones to live again. Move us to thirst for Your truth, and reveal Your glory in us—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
