Mid Year Revival Cry (Part One): A Humble Thirst for God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 6, 2023

Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:1-16

Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:2 (ESV): “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”

We are gradually approaching a mid point of the year; and there are deep spiritual realities to unfold as we journey gradually together. Habakkuk was an unusual prophet that blossomed in Israel between 626 and 612 BC. He was unusual because, unlike other prophets that issued warnings of judgment against corrupt nations, or promises of deliverance to the Jews, his was a prophecy of lamentation and queries to God about injustice, evil, and tragedy in the world. Burdened by the pain of the oppressed and desperation for goodness made Habakkuk desired a genuine provocation of divine revival that will change both the spiritual and cultural outlook of his generation.

Our generation is in dire need of revival—one that will turn our spiritual and cultural realities around. And we can learn from the little light of Habakkuk. Anyone who desires genuine divine revival must humble himself before God and expects to align his thoughts with God's. There must be a sincere thirst to hear God and gain wisdom from his word. Revival is not about what we do for God, rather, it is moving God himself to act on His own behalf and for us. Habakkuk offers up a petition to God and was confident that God hears the sentiment of his genuine desire to know. Revival is always born out of a genuine quest for God and an unceasing deep praying. We cannot smell genuine divine widespread revival unless we understand our need for God and our dependence on Him.

Quote for the Day: “God satisfies only heart cry, not of those who think they are righteous; but of those who thirst and hunger to be.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, all of mankind needs Your life! Our generation needs revival because it is life. Please pour down Your Holy Spirit afresh on us and revive Your work and make us a nation that fears You, and walks in righteousness. We call and cry for Your revival — in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.

Your Darling Bishop (DaBishop)
