“Nevertheless” (Part Four)

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 17, 2019

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 17:8-24

Key Verse: 1 Kings 17:15 (ESV): “And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days.”

God’s wisdom could never be challenged. There were widows in Israel nevertheless He sent Elijah to Zarephath, a city in Sidon, an area northwest outside of the land of Israel. It was not becoming of a Jew, nevertheless Elijah obeyed the Lord. When he got to the city gate, he encountered a hopeless-looking woman gathering sticks nevertheless, that was the woman God had commanded to care for him.

From a plea for water, Elijah’s request grew into something to eat. The woman explains her very last hope nevertheless Elijah tells her to go ahead with her plan, but to make him a small cake first. This was a odd request, and unkind too, nevertheless the woman obeys the Lord.

The spiritual lesson for us here is that, except we obey God’s bidding despite our circumstance(s), we may not be ready for the miracle that would reversed the negatives. Her obedience brought her a spiritual and physical circumstantial reversal: ‘The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth. She was able to feed her household, including Elijah, for many days because she obeyed the words of the Lord when it was hard to do.

Quote for the Day: “When God Place’s a task before you, He is actually placing a blessing.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to obey your word regardless of how I feel and think. I know you thoughts for me are always good. Let me knit donut you ever, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
