Not Again

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, August 15, 2026

Today’s Text: Nahum 1:1–15

Key Verse: “What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.” — Nahum 1:9 (KJV)

There are battles that come repeatedly because lessons are ignored, boundaries are left open, and compromises are tolerated. But Nahum 1:9 reveals the authority of God to bring a decisive end to whatever has troubled, or is troubling His people. The enemy may imagine, scheme, threaten, and plan; yet no plan formed against the Lord can outlast His power. Thhough God and in Him, we are able to say, “Not again,” to the affliction that has lingered too long, or trying to do so.

This verse was spoken in the context of God’s judgment against Nineveh, the powerful Assyrian oppressor of His people. Its immediate meaning concerns God’s promise to deal completely with a hostile power, so that the oppression would not need to rise again. It reminds us that God does not merely observe the pain, harassment, and opposition facing His children—He acts with wisdom, righteousness, and final authority.

As children of God “not again” must become a faith declaration in our lives. Not again will I return to the habit God delivered me from. Not again will I entertain bitterness, tolerate deception, excuse compromise, or reopen a door that prayer and obedience have closed. Not again will I let the enemy steal.my joy. This does not put confidence in our own strength or in the flesh; it shows surrender to the God who makes an utter end of what seeks to destroy His purpose in us.

Know this: the enemy often returns through familiar patterns. He revisits old wounds, old temptations, old fears, old relationships, old parental patterns, and old lies, hoping we will respond as we once did, or our parent did. But growth in Christ means that we do not have to give yesterday’s bondage permission to become today’s reality. When God has brought healing, do not rebuild what grace has torn down. When He has given deliverance, do not negotiate with what He delivered you from.

“Affliction shall not rise up the second time” also calls us to protect the victory God gives. Pray over your weak places. Establish godly boundaries. Fill your heart with God’s Word. Seek accountability where needed. Forgive quickly, walk humbly, and refuse every invitation to return to the place from which the Lord has rescued you. The God who ends the attack is also able to preserve the fruit of your freedom.

Action Steps: Today, identify one recurring affliction, temptation, fear, habit, or destructive pattern that you must no longer permit in your life. Bring it before God and declare, by faith and obedience, “Not again.” Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the door through which it has repeatedly returned, then close that door with repentance, boundaries, truth, prayer, and wise accountability. Trust the Lord to establish His victory in you and refuse to return to what He has called you out of.

Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You because You are mighty to bring an utter end to every work of darkness against my life. Forgive me for the times I have reopened doors You helped me close and returned to patterns You delivered me from. Give me discernment to recognize the enemy’s familiar strategies and courage to resist every temptation to go backward. Let every recurring affliction, fear, compromise, and bondage lose its hold over me. By Your grace, establish Your freedom in my heart and help me to say, “Not again,” to everything that opposes Your will for my life—in Jesus’s name, Amen.
