Only God Promotes

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, May 28, 2022

Today’s Text: Psalm 75:2-7

Key Verse: Psalm 75:6 (ESV): “For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up.“

We like to do anything to get ahead of others or get to the next level in life. Our concept of “survival of the fittest” often drives us to jump into others’ race, abandoning ours. We are sometimes like an athlete that abandons his own track in order to sidetrack the other runner. But God has purposed each of us to run his own race. Each man’s lifting has been perfected in his own course. You cannot fret over another’s race and win the prize. Understanding this will help each Christian to trust God for his perfect placement—in life or ministry. There is no need to run over others, do anything to impress, or to seek a placement in the kingdom. Only God promotes. Only Him gives His own the needed knowledge, wisdom and power to grow strong and do exploit. The problem is: we are almost always unwilling to submit to His will and plan in our lives. Our sense of competition often blind us from discerning His inspired move for our shift, and our liftings. Today’s scripture is very clear that promotion does not come from efforts, systems or man. It comes from God, whose will it is to always mature and lift us. Sometimes, that promotion may be a process, an assignment, or a relationship, whatever it is, we must learn how to depend on God for all aspired good things.

Prayer: Dear Lord, let me not because of anxiety jolt myself out of my right place at my right time. Dismantle all self-made structures that wound me against your purpose; and let Your Holy Spirit direct me into the wonderful things you have in store for me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
