Passion for God’s House

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, August 22, 2021

Today’s Text: John 2:13-17

Key Verse: John 2:17 (NLT): “Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”

Thank God it’s Sunday! It’s a day to gather with other saints of God in the worship of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. It’s also an opportunity to review and renew our hearts for the Lord. Today, the Lord wants us to meditate on thoughts emanating from this amazing scripture. Well, we need to ask ourselves: the conduct of our Lord in the narrative brought scripture to earth before the disciples; what shall people feel or learn when your life is before them?

When others look at your life and worship; or your example is set before them, would they be strengthened and challenged by your zeal? What would others see in you, and learn of you? Looking at the text before us, the disciples of Christ saw that their Master is always only moved by the glory of God and sincerity of worship. He never takes God’s house, his work, and the place of genuine spiritual zeal for granted.

What about you and me? Don’t we look at God’s house with indifference? Do we live daily with Christlike consciousness that God is our Father, and the place of worship therefore our Father's (or family) house? Do we have Jesus’ kind of consuming interest in the welfare of God’s dwelling? Do you not imagine that: if God truly is your Father, then His house is your family house, and therefore you should be zealous for it.

Prayer: O Lord, fill my heart with fresh fire for You. Let the desire for You and Your glory on earth be my driving force, in Jesus' name. Amen.
