Quit You Like Men (Part Three)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, February 5, 2020

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV): “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men”

The preacher in Ecclesiastes 1:9 had carefully implied the relation or repetition of the present in relation to the past. The charge of the apostle to Corinthians brethren is perhaps another important testimony to the preachers conclusion. Our age seems to have slipped into the same kind of chaos in which the church in Corinth found itself. The city in which the church was founded is so morally corrupt so much that, in entirety of the then known Roman Empire, the word “Corinthian” was used by the Romans for someone who was excessive immoral. Is today’s church not in a society deeper in immorality?

However, instead of us to live carefully in the age and be Christ’s living light and reflection, we seem to have become plagued ourselves, as was Corinthian believers. There are disunity, disorder, decadence, and various sorts of vices among us. If the Corinthians had factions and competing groups, yes, we have these on a grander scale. That is why the apostolic message that went out for them is now being sent to us—whether you are a young believer for whom life is just beginning, or a veteran of faith; whether you are a woman or a man; so long as we all are caught up in an inescapable web of needs and challenges—we must all rise up, watch where we failed and repent. We must then stand firm in our faith, and behave in manners becoming of men of God before a watching world.

Quote for the Day: “Our generation missed it because what God measures in terms of faithfulness, we measure in terms of success.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:*Dear Lord, please help me to be your good ambassador on earth. Holy Spirit guide me to live in compliance with God’s standard so that the world may see my shining light and glorify God through me, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
