Our Text: Proverbs 14:26-35
Key Verse: Proverbs 14:34 (ESV): “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
Good morning fiends, brethren and countrymen from every nation of earth. It’s America’s birthday today, the day that celebrates the nation’s independence. But God has a word not just for America or Americaba, but for everyone, and every nation. Our text today’s actually targets no specific nation, but its meaning simply, clearly and practically applies to all. A nation's real greatness consists not in its magnificence, national reserves, conquests, human or natural resources, military might, scientific or technological prowess—no, not in the vastness of it’s lands or in the skillfulness of its people; but in its observance of ever represented by the biblical absolute: righteousness. Both the entire phrase and the word righteousness give no room for a middle ground or alternatives.
The standard is clear if we genuinely desire a truly great and exalted nation. The way out of our nations’ downward slides and to true greatness is a return to righteousness and all it symbolizes—impartial equity between people; public countenance and restoration of faith in the God we trust; a discountenance and discontinuance of moral depravities; restoration of our values, virtue, and velocities, the protecting and preserving of virtuous heritage of kindness to strangers. All these things put global, political and spiritual honor upon a nation, and exalt it in the eyes of God. But see how much reproach our sin of backsliding has brought to/on us.
Quote for the Day: “As a nation, we must humble ourselves, repent, return to God with all our hearts, and embrace His righteousness. That’s how to make our country or countries great again.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, on this day of the United States of America’s independence anniversary celebration, I ask you to restore for us the landmarks of great spiritual heritage upon which this nation was founded—in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
