Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 4)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, May 24, 2020

Today’s Text: Daniel 2:1-13

Key Verse: Daniel 2:5 (ASV): “The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye make not known unto me the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.”

Still on the journey of seeing people in the perception, reception expression and impression of Christ; we have the life of Nebuchadnezzar II before us today. He was the longest-reigning and most powerful monarch of 7th century BC Neo-Babylonian Empire. God, in His wisdom, was serving His own divine purpose when He revealed and blocked off the revelation from the monarch’s mind, and put the same in Daniel’s. But Nebuchadnezzar’s true personality came bubbling out in the matter. He was a man who will make others pay for his own failures. If he is not happy, nobody should be. And this is a reflection of how he sees people.

There are men, women, leaders, politicians, ministers who sees others through the eyes of Nebuchadnezzar; who are proud and selfish and go any length to deprive others or punish them for no offense committed or any reason at all. If you work for a Nebuchadnezzar-boss, he would deprive you of rights and happiness. In a Nebuchadnezzar’s home, wife is a possession and children are slaves; and a Nebuchadnezzar-wife is a thorn in the flesh of her husband. Nebuchadnezzar-believers would rather rain down fire upon foes; but Jesus would “rebuked them, ...Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.” (Lk 9:55) The spirit we’re given is of Christ, the spirit of of love, and of a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7); the spirit which gives rights and power to all that believe in His name. (John 1:12,13).

Quote for the Day: "Perspective is everything: When men see a cast away, Christ sees a vessel of grace.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, help me to see other people in the light of your spirit. Take away from me: every scale of carnality that blocks the human eyes and souls, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
