Sharpened to Thresh Mountains (Part 1)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, November 11, 2021

Today’s Text: Isaiah 41:14-16

Key Verse: Isaiah 41:15 (ESV): “Behold, I make of you a threshing sledge, new, sharp, and having teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and crush them, and you shall make the hills like chaff.”

Just what does it mean to thresh and crush the mountains and make the hills like chaff? What are these mountains and hills? It’s so easy to perceive these as powers and principalities or kingdom of evil, or forces of spiritual militias—these are indeed mountains, but who are these mountains before us? They will indeed be leveled by one little word of God. However, there are things, in our lives, which appear to be little in our estimation but are far mightier than mountains, which need to be crushed daily—things like pride of life, hates and prejudice, passions and lusts, materialism and self-will—different habits that hinders us in fighting right and real spiritual welfare. To crush these, each believer needs a sharpened spiritual blade every day.

Two men were in a whole-day wood carving contest. One worked very hard, stopping only for a brief lunch break. The other guy spent more time having a leisurely lunch and took several breaks during the day. At the end, the hardworking guy was surprised and frustrated to find that his opponent had carved substantially more wood than he. While he was struggling hard with his blunt edged instrument, the other guy gathered more strength resting and sharpening his axe. When you work with blunt blades you labor more, carve less, and wear yourself out. But when your threshing instrument is new, sharp and having teeth, it crushes high and lofty things. As Christians, we live in a busy world where we just seem to be unable to slow down. Ask yourself: when last did I take a break to sharpen my blunt edges before God?

Quote for the Day: “Anything, in any believer’s life that occupies immense space, hindering his spiritual horizon and blocking his light is a mountain to be crushed and moved.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Thank You Lord for blessing me with so much power of faith which moves mountains though small as a mustard seed. Please give me the grace to crush those mountains and cast them all to the Sea, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
