Sharpened to Thresh Mountains (Part 2)

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, November 12, 2021

Today’s Text: Isaiah 41:14-16

Key Verse: Isaiah 41:15 (ESV): “Behold, I make of you a threshing sledge, new, sharp, and having teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and crush them, and you shall make the hills like chaff.”

A former treatise brings the realities of certain mountains before us. We shared of things that we indeed belittle in our estimation but which are far mightier than spiritual Kilimanjaro both in hierarchy and essence—pride, hate, prejudice, passions, bitterness, lusts, materialism, self-will etc. The metaphysical mountains of wicked hierarchies of evil almost stand daily against us. But God has done more than give us weapons to surmount them all; He has made us that instrument—new, sharp, having teeth. The Church is that making of the Lord. When Jesus called us, He said, “Follow me and I will make you…” He used the Greek equivalent of the same Hebrew "I will make thee” in this text. The Church is the true and new Israel of God made through the new covenant to "thresh" mountains, in the sky, on earth, and underneath.

We must mark the fact that we are made new and sharp. Impurities and deposits rust out a new instrument. Sin in our life is a corruption of the new nature. The same allegory is true of the blunt edges of the ineffective church. We cannot be sharp as long as we gather upon our edges things that easily beset and cling to us. That is why it hards us to thresh mountains of evil, and scatter the chaff of sin. We claim new life, but fail to live new. Our teeth are so blunt on edges that the sharp triumph of truths which tear down evil is lost. Or why is the Church so filled with perilous complacency? Why are the mountains still up that we are supposed to tresh? Are they not even higher in the church than in the world? Where is the original honor to which the early Christians and church were universally held? We must check ourselves to see if we are still sharp as we were made, or new as we were called?

Quote for the Day: “The size of the church has nothing to do with the exploit it is commissioned to do. Yes, it may be the "worm Jacob" by look, despised and scorned by nature; yet strong enough to crush the strongest opposition.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, revive Your work O Lord amidst bud. Cause a spiritual awakening that will return Your church to the height from which we have fallen, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
