Today’s Text: Psalm 91:1-16
Key Verse: Psalm 91:2 (ESV): “I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
The Bible book of Psalms helps us a lot through life’s difficulties. David was a real man. He was like us in many ways. He went through life’s hard struggles, rejection, hostility, hatred, and despair. But through all circumstances, he demonstrated hope in the Lord. With the help of the Lord, David was able to stand secure amid tough times. Of course, the Bible is not silent about his many adversities of life. We see the shamefulness of his sins, the deepened sorrows of his loss, the household battle against his own son, the persistence of his numerous enemies who sought to destroy him, and even the severe battles that ravaged his vision to build a house for the Lord his God. But we hear this same man's testimony to the unstoppable mercies and goodness of God.
Yes, to get to that point, David, amid all his adversities, hoped in God. We can therefore learn from him, that: despite our darkest moments, we too can hope in the Lord our God, and trust Him to be our refuge. His dark moments were so thick; but David’s testimony before the Lord was: “I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Such is the testimony of the just. Yes, they may be dealing with the seductive snare of sin and even the darkest shadows of death. But never shall they be consumed by hopelessness or fear. The just are always emboldened by faith, and stabilized in hope. They set their face like flint upon the anvil of divine promises and are never put to shame. If and when we learn to align ourselves, by faith, to the goodness, provision, protection, and kindness of the Lord, we as well shall have testimonies that shall point others to God.
Quote for the Day: “God’s men are never fearful men. They are still, sturdy and stable in the face of adversity. They serve God who keeps His men.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being my rock and fortress, my Savior, in whom I find all needed help. Thank You for being my shield, power, and defender from all enemies. I continue to hide under the shelter of Your arm—in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
