The Beginning of the End

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, March 7, 2022

Today’s Text: Matthew 24:3-14

Key Verse: Matthew 24:8 (ESV): “All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.“

While the world watch Russia’s excessive or cruel use of force to occupy and subjugate Ukraine, God’s word remains very clear about divine position on use of military strength to cause war and oppress the weak. Nowhere in the Bible can we find justification for such war crime as perpetuated by Vladimir Putin. And indeed, all Bible promises point to God’s intention to cause war to end in His perfect timing and Kingdom. Common questions in the mind of most people is “why?” Is this part of our Lord’s prophecies concerning the world’s final hours? Is this an indication that those final hours are here or at hand? Is Putin fulfilling anything chosen or permitted by God?

Whatever your responses are, every unfolding reality of our time is a clear sign of the coming end. Today’s text is our Lord’s warning to His disciples to watch fir the signs—yes, that’s what it is, a sign. Therefore, as He warned them, we also must be warned not to run ourselves over with terror and impulse of the commotion. These do not really mean that the planet is about to fall into an abrupt end and ruin. It only points us to the fact that the end is near. Let us therefore take heed to our lives. Let us walk circumspectly. Let us run back to God and lift up our world to His mercy while we traverse these deadly and terrific days. Let us not attempt to be wise in our own eyes, or above what has been written.
