The “One Thing” Path (Part 1)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, November 20, 2023

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 7:17-24

Key Verse: Psalm 27:4 (NKJV): “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.”

This week, we shall chart a different path for our devotional meditation, looking at the “one thing” factor to spiritual growth—following the Bible. From David’s "One thing I have desired of the Lord…" to our Lord Jesus’ visit to Mary and her sister Martha in their little village of Bethany when He said, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed…" (Luke 10:41-42). And to the apostolic declaration of St. Paul who unequivocally said, "But one thing I do…”.

We would rather prefer to glory in how tight our ministerial schedule and itinerary have grown. Perhaps we think that is what straining toward what is ahead, and pressing onward to an upward goal is all about; but through the next couple of days, God will be taking us through scriptural path toward winning the prize for which God has called us in Christ. We will then see that we are never called to a rowdy noisy clumsy lifestyle that we create for ourselves. The awe, serenity, silence and peace in God’s presence bear witness to the fact of "one thing."

Quote for the Day: “If anyone knows the necessities and duties of life, David probably knew far better; but there is always the “one-thing” of life needed to be the apple of God’s eyes.“

Prayer: Dear God, please create in me a heart renewed to focus on you; a right spirit that desire you alone. Let my eagerness be to always keep an eternal perspective and glorify you in all that I do — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
