Today’s Text: Proverbs 25:11-15

Key Verse: Proverbs 25:15 (ESV): “With patience a ruler may be persuaded,

and a soft tongue will break a bone.”

I must confess that the older I get, the clearer it becomes that I do not have to be in argument with anyone or get angry when people reject me or my truth. Perhaps, this sounds pretty much like you as well. What we all need is real patience to deal with our perverse, froward, difficult, dangerous and pluralistic generation — especially to respond to their provocations with a soft answer. Today’s text is what the Holy Spirit used to motivate me to become deliberate in working on overcoming my flaring tendencies. After all, there is never a moment of rejection for us who are on the right so far as nothing can be done against the truth but for it. Each moment we feel rejected, we are only being redirected. Mufti Menk says: “If you are right then there is no need to get angry, and if you are wrong then you don't have the right to get angry.”

Where the problem lies for many of us is the lack of the ability for soft answer. Many people would rather lose their hard earned position, treasure, relationship and/or reputation than lose an argument or than offer a soft answer. Our church is on the study of 1Peter and we had an enriching conversation on two rich concepts of winning people without words and defending the gospel with soft answers spoken in confident and love. No matter what people say to us, we must demonstrate the strength of character through the use of soft answer. Anger flies up fences and ruins relationships. If at all people ever get angry at you or what you say; please ensure that their anger is against your truth, and not the manner in which you speak it. Harsh words never portray a strong character. They are evidence of unbroken spirit, pride, and hardness of heart.

Quote for the Day: “ “The meekness of Christ should teach us that softness is never a weakness. Rather, it is a voiceless weapon that silently crushes all resistance and conquers the whole world." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, Your word says that a meek and quiet spirit is of great value to You. Please teach me to humble myself, and to learn of You, the conquering power of meekness, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
