The Righteous shall Leap with Joy

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, September 9, 2022

Today’s Text: Malachi 4:1-3

Key Verse: Malachi 4:2 (NLT): “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.”

How blessed are we as believers in Jesus Christ! This text presents us with a blessed and exciting typology of our relationship with Christ. Malachi saw a vision of Jesus as our sun of righteousness. He (Malachi), was the seal of Old Testament prophets, and was the right oracle to speak of Jesus Christ as our light — just before the four hundred years of darkness in which there will be no prophetic words or vision. He saw that at the end, Jesus brings light to the darkness. He brings justice to the condemned. He brings hope to the hopeless. And, He brings joy to the broken. Malachi saw ahead that the 400 years of darkness will soon pass—just as our present pain shall end—with the appearance of Christ. Jesus brings new hope to His Church. He (Christ) is the Sun of Righteousness. Both His coming and His rising from the dead bring healing in his wings. Through Him we are made righteous and we “grow up as calves of the stall.” And by Him, the wicked shall be tread down.

This is a double-edged prophetic sword: it speaks of a concluded part of which Christ already came and inaugurated His Kingdom of Light; and also, of an imminent future in which He shall be the judge of all things. Malachi exhorts the righteous to rejoice in the emergence of their light like the appearance of the morning sun. The wicked must be worried for all their woes—their burden of sin, and the coming judgment. Whereas, the righteous have the advent of the enlivening and gladdening Sun, those who fail to embrace Jesus are the wicked. They stand at the risk of the condemning and scorching heat of the Sun. Anyone who confesses Jesus finds healing and hope. They find righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. This great indescribable joy, the prophet had seen, and was only able to liken it to the leaping of frisking calves. If you are part of this joy, we should congratulate you. If you are not, we admonish you.

Quote for the Day: “Our greatest joy as Christians is in our living hope. Though we walk in the dark now; we take comfort in the certainty that Jesus is our Light. And not only are our hearts lightened by His promise; but we shall surely walk with Him in His eternal light.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You are the Author of light; and my Sun of righteousness. O help me to keep my gaze steadily on the light of Your divine Presence. Lift me above all that overwhelms me and give me the Joy of Your glorious Light — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
