The Sealed Tomb Cannot Stop the Risen Lord

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, April 3, 2021

Today’s Text: Matthew 27:62 - 28:10

Key Verse: Matthew 27:66 (ESV) — “So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.”

In all essence, we are confident that no power on earth or underneath it, or in heaven can ever stop God. In the days of Attaliah, daughter of Jezebel vowed and proceeded to destroy the whole royal seed to stop the Lord’s promise for Davidic succession, she did not know that no counsel could stop God. Isaiah, the prophet understands this, and challenged the nations: “For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?” (Isaiah 14:27)

Therefore, every system: public, legal, religious and political that make itself a yoke and a burden to God's plan, people and purpose, and tries to stop God must know this; all the rocks and bars in the world knitted together is not heavy enough to stop God. His counsel shall always stand. When the Lord purposed to take Israel through Assyrian's land, He broke their yoke and stretched out His hands to execute His purpose; and who has power to turn it back? No one!

Jewish priests and Pharisees forsook the path to devotions and pursued a course with the powers that be to secure the tomb and prevent the Lord's resurrection. Our world’s people, systems and powers today behave like those poor little Pharisees. They fail to learn that no man could seal up the power of God with a rock and a few guards. Does the whole world even have enough armory and battalion to resist God?

The struggle to keep Jesus in the tomb is still going on today. Religious leaders are still conniving with politicians today to keep the Church, and the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom in the tomb. The common liberal world does not mind having Jesus in the neighborhood as long as he neither get past the four walls of the church nor go spreading His good news in the community. The fundamentalists fight tooth and nail to violently take the kingdom of God away. But Jesus is still out here, and there, doing good. No tomb can stop the risen Lord.

Quote for the Day: “In a way, the reality of the sealed tomb is still here; and in every way, the reality of the risen Lord is proven. (Simoniru Olatunji)

Prayer: O Lord I thank you because your church is not a defeated flock, and we can walk daily in the power of resurrection, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer, I wish you and your household a Happy Good Friday!
