Today's Text: Matthew 24:3-14
Key Verse: Matthew 24:6 (NIV): "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come."

When we build cities, we hire watchmen, who mount on city towers to watch against incoming dangers and for signs of approaching events. Similarly, believers in Christ have the responsibility to discern the signs of the times, specifically those foretold by Jesus regarding the end times. As we watch how our world is filled with reports of conflicts and unrest, our focus should be on understanding these as indicators, not as reasons for alarm. These "wars and rumors of wars" are not the end in themselves but rather a part of God's unfolding plan of the end. God wants these signs to wake us up from slumber and slaughtfulness so that we can remain steadfast in our faith. That's the intent of our Lord when he forewarned us on these things. So, we must recognize these events as signals, urging us to be prepared and to carry out our purpose.
Like the watchman upon the world's tower, Jesus was upon Mount Olivet when He clearly laid out various signs that would precede His return. The mention of "wars and rumors of wars" signifies widespread conflict and the constant reports of such, rather than necessarily a single, definitive global war. It's crucial to understand that Jesus explicitly states these events are not the end, but precursors to it. The Bible also highlights other accompanying signs like famines, pestilences, and earthquakes, which are collectively described as "birth pangs" – painful but necessary processes leading to or pointing to the event of the end. As we can see, the signs are all here but, unfortunately, we all are drawned in the mace of things. Whereas, the signs are to prepare us, and instill in us a sense of urgency to share the Gospel and live in readiness for Christ's return.
Action Steps: Observe current events through the lens of Scripture. Understand that global conflicts are part of the prophetic landscape. Rather than succumbing to fear or despair, use these signs as motivation to live intentionally for Christ. Share the hope of the Gospel with those who are anxious or without peace. Pray for peace in conflict-ridden areas and for discernment to understand God's timing and purpose.
Quote for the Day: "The signs are not meant to frighten us, but to awaken us to the urgency of our mission and the imminence of His return." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for revealing the signs of the times. Help us not to be alarmed by the wars and rumors of wars, but to see them as indicators of Your perfect plan unfolding. Grant us wisdom to understand Your Word and the courage to live out our faith with urgency, sharing the hope of Christ with a world in need – in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
