Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 20, 2020
Today’s Text: Numbers 23:5-12
Key Verse: Numbers 23:11 (ASV): “And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.”
Final battles and finish lines are always injurious and critical. A wounded snake is more venomous than when it were not. That’s now the case with Satan, man’s arch enemy. The closer we get to the return of our Lord, the more desperate the devil gets to keep us from Eternity. This is not different from how Balak, king of Moab, was alarmed and strived hard to keep the Jews from entering their Promised rest. So, like satanic mandate, Balak sent elders of Midian and his Moabite chieftains to induce Balaam to curse Israel so they may err and miss the promise.
In like manner, today, Satan has induced so many Balaams and the Spirit of Balaam doing their best to speak like oracles of God, more or less in the spirit of enchantments, divination or spells to cause or curse God’s chosen people to err. This is abominable to God and contradicts the spirit we are given. Our cities and churches are, without doubt, filled with Balaams leading double life and causing people to err. Their enticements are the offerings, gifts and possessions. We should watch out for, and beware of them.
