Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, December 10, 2022
Today’s Text: Matthew 1:18-25
Key Verse: Matthew 1:24 (ESV): “When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife."

Have you ever asked yourself just what it is to align yourself with the plan and purpose of God? In a world and age where materialism has been promoted above spirituality, finding one’s feet in the will of God is becoming more and more impossible for people to seek spiritual alignment with God’s plan for them. But, in the unfolding revelation of Christ’s birth is one young man, from whom we all may learn. That man is Joseph.
Whereas Mary has been more prominently celebrated based on the favor of God bequeathed upon her, Joseph played a more remarkable role than her in the leading events. You will understand and agree with this if you imagine how difficult it is to be the one who has to respond to which unexpected and unusual news about a fiancée’s pregnancy. Or, if you are the one who must protect snd organize that fiancée’s escape to an unfamiliar destination such as Egypt; and then has to bring her and the unexplainable son back to Nazareth, your home town.
In spite of all odds and turns, Joseph maintained an upright character, and stayed practically calm in the turbulence and uneasiness of God’s working in his life and the life of Mary. Therefore, Joseph has become a good example to our generation—a generation of disloyalty, betrayal, greed and avarice — when finding supporters of destinies, and men who allows God to use them quietly behind the scenes to get things done for others is hard to find. In addition, Joseph teaches us the virtue and value of righteous living. He exemplifies the importance of taking directive from God even when it is difficult and during spectacular times.
Quote for the Day: “Bearing a name is not as spectacular as living its reality: Like Joseph the son of Jacob went to Egypt to save his family from extermination, .so Joseph went on to Egypt to save his family from death.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please let Your will to be done in my life and in this world, for Your way to rule in my life here on earth as it does in heaven. Let me know that I am not in control, Lord, but that you are, even when that's often hard for me to admit and accept — in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
