Thinking about the Angels: The Christ, the Christmas and the Characters (Part Six)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, December 22, 2022

Today’s Text: Luke 1:20-2:12

Key Verse: Luke 1:19 (NIV): “The angel replied, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to convey to you this good news.”

The perfect alignment of angels with the plan and purpose of God in the nativity story is a lesson to be learnt. With or without us, God is able to carry out his glorious works on earth; but should he choose to use us; it is important we learn to release ourselves joyfully for his service. The angels rejoiced both at their role and at the coming of Messiah into the world. Gratitude, excitement and worship are vital show of spiritual alignment with God in any spiritual assignment.

Angels from the root of their name are messengers. They are happy to serve their purpose. The angel that appeared to Zechariah introduced himself as Gabriel that stands in the presence of God, who has been sent to tell his the good news. How much do you strive against purpose. Especially when it has to do with serving or service. Easy, tough, lowly or great, God’s angels never failed their part in the overall appearance, announcement and encouragement they needed to do from Zechariah to Joseph, Mary and the shepherds. Our calling may not be easy, or it may be; but all that matter before the Lord is the service itself — not the place of service or the weight of it.

In 1 Corinthians 7:21, Paul admonishes that being called a servant should not make us anxious. The attitude of servanthood found in the angels is consistent with the attitude of our Lord, who came into the world as a servant, not as king, as the dawn, not as the noon though he is in fact the world’s shining light, which brightens more and more unto the perfect day. So, the angels cared not for being servants, we should care not for it. We must never be troubled that we are called into humble service.

Quote for the Day: “From Abrahamic days up until this day, angels remain happy and dependable benevolent servants for humans safety and blessings. Staying on one’s calling is a critical aspect of service.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me grace to be sincere in my calling. Let me serve from a pure heart. Let my sacrifices satisfy you, and enable me to maintain consistent services to you, so that I may not lose my reward at the end — in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
