Triumph of Meekness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, June 3, 2020

Today’s Text: Matthew 5:3-5

Key Verse: Matthew 5:5 (ESV): “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

A.W. Tozer’s description of a meek man helps. To him, the meek is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of his own inferiority. Rather he may be as bold as a lion and as strong as Samson; but he has stopped being fooled to be full of self. He accepts God's estimation of his life and understands human weakness and helplessness before God. This makes him see nothing in himself, but in God, everything. It is a childlike desire to imitate Christ who said “I am meek and lowly of heart.”

Today’s scripture calls us to the character of one who has the passion of resentment under check. It is the character of a Christlike soul: outward manifestation of inward quality of a mild, gentle, long-suffering, and forgiving personality. No matter what we receive or have, we are called to be like Christ in our disposition. Let us desire Christlike spirit of being slow to anger. Let us averse from wrath; not easily provoked; and if at any time at all provoked as humans, let us learn to be soon pacified in the spirit of Christ. We lose and feel blue when we fight to put ourselves forward but the way we truly win all is meekness, in fact we, like Christ win all the earth.
